West African Applied Behavior Analysis Certificate (WA-ABA- Cert.)

The West African Applied Behavior Analysis Certificate (WA-ABA-Cert) is a 60-hour hybrid course of Virtual Institution instruction on

  1. Autism Spectrum Disorder Basics
  2. Legal, Ethical, and Professional Considerations
  3. Assessment
  4. Core Principles of ABA
  5. Antecedent Interventions
  6. Skills Acquisition Programming
  7. Behavior Reduction Interventions
  8. Data Collection and Analysis
  9. Training and Supervision.

This coursework is highly synchronized with the task lists of International credentialing bodies such as the Behavior Analyst Certification Board BACB, Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Board QABA BOARD and ABAI guidelines that define the standards for Behavior Analysis Training Programs around the world (here referred to as the Tiered model of Education) which have been integrated into Education to resonate with the needs of African communities at large.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:

– National Certificate of Education (NCE)
– Ordinary National Diploma (OND)- First degree [BS or BA] or Higher National Diploma [HND]
Age: 18 years and above
Provision of a Police report/Criminal Background Report or Sworn Court Affidavit

This Certificate provides for educational advancement and professional mobility globally as the student can elect to seek further training towards credentialing as RBT with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board [BACB] by writing the RBT International Board examination or with the Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Board [QABA BOARD] by writing the ABA-Tech International Board Examination.

The professional services of Applied Behavior Analysis Technicians are in very high demand all over the world, Africa inclusive. Qualified students can work with children with autism and other developmental disabilities with communication difficulties in the hospital, agencies, schools, and at home. They can also be self-employed under supervision within the policy of the region and the governing professional body.

OUTCOMES – Learning objectives

The students who complete this certificate course level of training will be able to:

 

  1. Explain the defining characteristics and identify applications of behavior analysis.
  2. Demonstrate a working knowledge of and essential characteristics of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  3. Describe and identify examples and non-examples of the principal concepts of behavior analysis (e.g.,   reinforcement, extinction, stimulus control).
  4. Describe, and identify examples and non-examples, and use the main scientific methods of applied behavior analysis (e.g., measurement of behaviors, functions, and ABC’s of assessment of behavior).
  5. Describe and use the principal procedures demonstrated in applied behavioral research (e.g., differential reinforcement, prompting, shaping, transfer of stimulus control).
  6. Implement effective applications of behavior analysis consistent with national and international ethical principles (under supervision from a QASP/QBA & BCBA-level behavior analyst).
  7. Pass the international credentialing examinations on RBT and ABA-Tech by BACB and QABA Board, respectively.

Training Methodology and Mode of Lecture Delivery:

 

How it Works:

The institution uses GoToMeeting which is a video streaming system that allows the participant to attend a weekend training program live, hear the presenter in Realtime, view related power-point presentation, and ask questions if further clarification on any concept is required. Because the student can participate from the comfort of his/her own office and living room, such a student does not need to travel to a reception center.

 

Learning Method:

 

The International Training Center for Applied Behavior Analysis features a variety of learning methods, including readings, Practical demonstration, and discussions = 30% tests/quizzes: = 70% TOTAL 100%

 

Grading Criteria:

PASS MARK: = or >70%

 

 

Policy:

 Missing the Training Quizzes/Test will amount to “incomplete”, and the participant will not be entitled to having a certificate of completion.

 Attendance

  • It is in the best interest of each student to log in daily and actively participate in the training as it is recorded.
  • SIGN the Register- At the beginning of each lecture.
  • PARTICIPATE & TAKE TURNS in reading the PowerPoint as required.
  • SIGN out of the Register- At the end of each lecture.
